THE GREATEST DAY IN HISTORY
"He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything."
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the greatest day in human history!
It is the beginning of a new humanity and the complete renewal of all creation – a new world without sin, death, and the devil. The tremendous powers that were set in motion that day will realize God's wonderful purposes for our world.
On the cross, Christ became one with humanity "dead in trespasses and sins."
But the sinless Saviour's spiritual victory on the cross paved the way for His triumphant resurrection from the dead. He rose again as "the firstborn from the dead": the one who broke up the prison of death and Hades (the womb) for all humanity, and now holds "the keys of death and Hades."
He has thus "abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel"
(2 Tim.1:10).
Christ now has an authority that he never had before: to open the prison doors of death and the realm of Hades, so that everyone who believes can be freed from the power of darkness and brought into the kingdom of God, pass "from death to life" and become partaker of God's own life, "eternal life" (Jn.5:24).
The cross is the end of everything we have inherited from Adam and in Christ we share in a new,
spiritual, spotless inheritance: when we believe and receive Him, His powerful resurrection life flows
into us so that we are born again as new creatures in Christ.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is a creation, the birth of a completely new man, the beginning of something completely new in human history: a kind of man that never existed before, sinless, immortal with a glorified body.
When we believe and receive Him, His mighty resurrection life flows into us and we are born again to
new creations in Christ. We become sin-overcomers like Him, with the hope of one day being clothed
with a glorified human body like that of the risen Lord.
The resurrection is the dawn of a new day for both humanity and creation, because all creation is summed up in Him and therefore also included in the atonement.
Everything that Jesus Christ "accomplished" on the cross becomes effective through his resurrection: the greatest day in human history!
