1/. THE BREAD OF LIFE

"I AM the bread of life; he who come to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst."
— John 6:35; read the whole portion 6:32-58!

How does the Spiritual World become real to us?

Through partaking of the Spiritual Life: "Eternal Life" (6:40).

This Life is offered to us in the form of bread and drink. We have to "eat and drink" it (6:53-54) – i.e.take it into us, absorb and assimilate it, so that it becomes one with us and fills our whole being.

Jesus Himself is the Bread that has come down out of heaven - the Spiritual Bread and the Spiritual Drink. In Him is contained the whole Spiritual World, all the Gifts of God, all of Divine Life.

When we partake of Him, we step into the Spiritual World and become partakers of everything that is there – we receive Eternal Life, the very Life of God .

What does it mean to "eat and drink" Jesus?

It´s the same as to "come" to Him and "believe" in Him (6:35).

That faith is a gift of God, "the work of God" in you (6:29). He "draws" you to Jesus (6:44) and opens

up your spiritual eyes so that you can see who He is (6:40), and so there is awakened an intense

hunger and thirst in you for Him, a longing to partake of Him.

Through faith you "eat and drink" Jesus: you take Him into yourself, all that He is, His "flesh and blood", into your spiritual organism and are united with Him. You become completely one with Him, so that He becomes your life: "He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in Me and I in him." (

You enter into the same kind of union with Jesus that He had with His heavenly Father and begin to live the same kind of life that he lived. This deep, spiritual union with Jesus is "Eternal Life".

"The Bread" – the Heavenly Bread – is the teaching of Jesus: "the words that I have spoken to you are Spirit and life" (6:63).

Through His Word Jesus gives Himself to us, all that He is as "the Son of Man" – the Manifestation of God in "flesh and blood" – and by faith we "eat and drink" Him, assimilate Him, just as really as our physical body assimilates the food we eat and drink!
